“Voting is the first duty of Democracy.

-Lyndon B. Johnson

“The City Council is Kirkland’s governing body and is comprised of seven non-partisan members who are elected by the registered voters of Kirkland to serve “at large” (not representing a district or ward). Councilmembers are elected every two years to serve four-year terms. The Mayor and Deputy Mayor are elected among the members to serve two-year terms.”

“Four City Council seats will be up for election in 2025 (positions 1, 3, 5, & 7 for four-year terms ending 12/31/2029)” (Source: www.kirklandwa.gov/Government/City-Council)

Not your typical voter guide!

This past Spring, traditional candidates have been focused on securing partisan, legislative district endorsements which requires making an impression with large fundraising or parties. Meanwhile, other candidates may have focused primarily on listening to neighborhoods and community members (voters). Therefore, Cherish Kirkland is monitoring the 1) Kirkland address and 2) Individual versus Self donor proportions across candidates in each of the 4 races: Position 1, Position 3, Position 5, and Position 7. And as the data is only through the May monthly reporting deadline, we focused less on the total amount of donations.
